Solid surfaces are acrylic-based, used for seamless countertop installations. Solid surface is suited for bathroom and commercial applications because of its nonporous and stain-resistant qualities.
Solid surface can be fabricated not only into countertops, but washable wainscot, wall cladding, and showers, or backsplashes scored to look like tile, battens, or beadboard. Solid surface mimics natural stone, concrete, or quartz in softer, more subtle hues. Unlike the stones, solid colors are also available. Minor abrasions can be sanded and repaired.

Laminate provides style, design, and color for both wall surface cabinetry and countertops in commercial and residential applications. Newer laminate selections, made with digital photography, closely imitate natural granite or aged barn wood without the investment.

Soapstone is a natural stone, found in many historic homes as well as modern kitchens. The tones typically range from chalky gray to deep green. For the look of a gracefully aged countertop, soapstone is a natural choice. Soapstone is not as hard as granite: it is stone that can be carved like “soap” into apron front farm sinks or even cookware. Although soapstone is highly heat resistant, superficial scratches and edges wear over time. In order to enhance and preserve the appearance of your countertop, soapstone periodically needs to be oiled.

Butcher block requires a periodic application of oil.
